Eat Between Meals?
Snacking between Meals?

Snacking in between meals can be perfectly healthy for kids. What's not healthy is snacking so much that main meals are not being eaten. Children need to refuel their bodies more than three times a day, especially when they're really active. Children also have small stomachs, so in general they may need to eat more often than adults. If children don't get regular meals and snacks, they may get tired and grouchy. A good snacking guideline is to have snacks at least twice a day.

What makes good snacks?

Many people think snacks mean foods that aren't nutritious, in other words providing vitamins and minerals and other essential nutrients. And that is exactly the way to evaluate a “good snack”: it should be nutritious. Some great choices include fruit, nuts, yoghurt, cut-up veggies, popcorn, low-fat cheese, or a piece of low-GI or whole-grain bread. High-sugar, high-fat treats don’t keep us satisfied very long and contribute to an unhealthy body.  It is also easy to overeat on unhealthy snacks.  That's not to say we can't have a chocolate bar or crisps once in a while, if you like them, but make the regular snacks more nutritious!
